May is a month of revelations! With a Scorpio Full Moon, Gemini New Moon and Saturn into Aries, it's time to drum up the courage and lift the veil...

May is a month of revelations. We have a Full Moon in dark and secretive Scorpio and a New Moon in curious and communicative Gemini. Secrets seems to be coming to light.

With both of May’s lunations linking Mercury with Pluto, a great veil is lifted. Can we bear to look underneath and transmute so much ugly darkness into light?

The time is ripening fast. With all planets recently direct and a galvanising late April Taurus New Moon May starts on a high. The game is on, time to push ahead boldly. Courage is certainly something we’ll need plenty of with Saturn about to enter Aries on the 25th, approaching Neptune, and with Chiron and Eris conjunct on the 27th. This calls us to be bold and brave, to look wide-eyed into all sorts of horror and not stick our head in the sand. The time of revelations is here. It’s a time of great change. A time of heroes. Meaning you and me. The only question is: what kind of hero are you? What’s your own unique heroic contribution gonna be?   Let's look at the Astrology of May 2025.

May 2025 Astrology Week 1: Mars Direct and Out of Shadow

May starts on a high. By May 1st, Mars is finally strong and firing on all cylinders (that is, not only is Mars direct and within the bounds of the Sun, he is also out of his retrograde shadow). Mars had us all pushing uphill since last November, when he entered his retrograde shadow, eventually going retrograde December 2024 - February 2025 and staying out of bounds much longer - and under Pluto’s control - until mid-April, unable to truly move forward until May 1st. Well, now all that is over. And we can finally push full speed ahead.

Projects that may have felt stuck since last October-November can now begin to make headway.

Venus conjunct Neptune May 2nd: New Romance

On May 2nd Venus freshly in Aries conjuncts Neptune planting seeds of universal love, romance and fresh desire.

This is a brand new kind of desire. Inspiring, emboldening, slightly diffuse and boundless.

It is a desire for independence, a desire for sovereignty, a desire for bold and courageous love, not only for self and other, but for the world. Neptune is new in Aries (we haven’t had Neptune in Aries since the mid 1800s!) and so this Venus-Neptune conjunction is a new feeling altogether. Embrace it. Enjoy it. Plant some bold, brave and wonderful seeds!

Uranus harmonises with the Lunar Nodes on the same day and this is a real opportunity to break with the past and open new pathways to the future.

The Great Lunistices of 2025: Far Out!

Also on May 1st the Moon stands still in the northernmost sky!

That’s because 2025 is the year of the Lunistice - or lunar stand-still - when the Moon reaches its northernmost and southernmost points in the sky - a one in eighteen and a half years event.

We are all aware of the word “Solstice” when the Sun does the same, reaching its northern and southernmost points twice a year, in June and December, marking the start of winter and summer, and the shortest and longest days of the year. The Moon also has this undulating orbit north and south of the celestial equator but it only reaches its northern- and southernmost limits every two decades or so! And when it does it lasts pretty much for a whole year, happening about twice a month as the Moon goes about its monthly cycles. This is now happening twice a month throughout 2025!

What’s of extra interest about this period is that the Moon is also ‘out of bounds’ at its Lunistices, which means it goes further north or south of the celestial equator than the Sun ever could. While the Sun can’t go beyond 23.5 degrees or so (and it is at this point that we get the solstices), the Moon can reach to over 28 degrees North and South - five degrees beyond the ecliptic, or apparent path of the sun. And this happens in 2025 at least twice a month. Right now, it’s between May 1st - 3rd that the Moon is far out of bounds, reaching its furthest northern declination on the 1st, and slowly beginning to come inbound.

It’s really worth noting the Lunistice days as they may feel a little eery and far-out. See what realisations you come to or look out for key emotional turning points.

You may have a feeling of flying high early in the month, even potentially find yourself less able in connecting with people May 1st-3rd. Watch and see how the out of bounds Moon surrounding the Lunistice affects you personally. The Lunistice takes place on May 1st while the Out of Bounds Moon last until May 3rd. From that point, the Moon begins to make its way into normal society once more.

(Here is a useful link with the Lunistices of 2025. Note that all this is different again to the “Void of Course” Moon, which indicates a time when the Moon makes no major aspects as it’s about to change signs. The Moon is truly a fascinating body to study!)

Pluto Retrograde May 4th: Time to Integrate Deep Changes

We’ve barely had a couple of weeks of all planets going direct and, come May 4th, Pluto in Aquarius turns retrograde. This can be yet another intense day of realisations.

Unliked previous years, we have no long “no-retros” period in 2025. But that’s a good thing! Pluto has been pushing inexorably forward in Aquarius since its final entry in November 2024 and the changes now altering the entire energetic field of our world have been relentless.

Pluto’s pause on May 4th gives us pause for thought. How do we want to use AI moving forward? How about chat GPT? How about social media?

Can we take a moment to consider how our world - and our consciousness - are rapidly becoming transformed through technology and make a conscious decision about our own personal relationship with it? What world do we want to live in? What does the future look like? And what people, ideals and communities mean the most to us? It’s time to give some serious thought to what it even means to be human; to have consciousness, to be more than this flesh (or in future, perhaps, this silicone)…

So many questions. We have all summer to think about these questions before Pluto pushes full speed ahead once more come mid-October and into 2026 and beyond, all the way to 2044.

May Astrology 2025 Week 2: Mercury, Chiron and Eris

May 5th - May 7th we have some lovely aspects as Mercury sextiles Jupiter and Venus sextiles Pluto. May 5th lends itself to big visionary thinking, and to inspiring meetings and conversations. Expect lucky encounters and good news.

By the 7th feelings run deep and relationships get rather intimate. Financial opportunities could also arise now. Also on May 7th Mercury conjuncts Chiron and Eris - a potentially raw, rife and vulnerable moment for news, travel and communications of all kinds.

Keep it real now. Be honest. No beating about the bush.

May Astrology 2025 Week 3: Scorpio Full Moon May 12th

And so we come to May’s Full Moon or “Flower Moon”. On May 12th we have an intense Scorpio Full Moon (at 23 degrees of Scorpio at 17:55BST, 16:55 UT). Put on your detective hat! The veil is being lifted as we speak on all kinds of unbelievable news and goings on!

Mars and Pluto, the rulers of this Full Moon, both apply by square to Mercury. Dark and disturbing information is sure to come to light - enough to get the blood boiling.

We’re in a period of extraordinary revelations which are not easy for the mind to grasp.

But Pluto-Mercury is anything but naive. Facts have a really dark underbelly now, and with Mars involved too, words lead to actions.

This is a Scorpio Full Moon after all. And Scorpio loves to be let in on a juicy secret. Scorpio loves to delve beneath the surface. ‘Sex, money, and power’: that’s Scorpio’s motto in a clichéd nutshell… Underneath it a ll, Scorpio is about transformation, it is about energetic and financial sovereignty through special bonds and occult knowledge, and ultimately about personal empowerment. It is about lifting the veil and knowing the truth, no matter how ugly; having a real naked direct experience, no matter how frightening; being the master of your own reality, no matter what it takes. None of these are comfortable things so get ready to get pretty uncomfortable.

With this Full Moon also opposite the Sun and Uranus in Taurus, revelations could be rather shocking and destabilising, shedding light on how and why our world is changing so radically. Plus, Taurus and Scorpio are quintessentially financial signs so expect some interesting developments on that front too. Want to understand how anything works? As they say, ‘follow the money’! These are nonetheless positive energies.

Be open to change now, put on that detective hat, and be ready to transmute these avalanches of dark energy coming up into light.

The Sabian Symbol for this lunation is “a rabbit metamorphoses into a nature spirit.” This emphasises the transformative theme of this Scorpio Full Moon and the need to transmute and transubstantiate the dark, primitive and base drives, motives, habits, and goings on now revealed. This is a alchemical Full Moon!

Southernmost May 15th: Dig Deep!

Just at that moment, May 13th- May 18th the Moon goes out of bounds south of ecliptic, literally descending into the underworld. The days following the Scorpio Full Moon could be intense. Relationships could get personal and you may have an opportunity to bond deeply with another person. Fears could also flare up and personal demons run riot. It’s all in a day’s work (or 3-5 days’ as the case may be).

Use this period to sort out your inner world.

Look for a turning point around May 15th, the Southern Lunistice, when the Moon stands still and begins climbing back upwards toward the ecliptic.

Venus exits Retrograde Shadow May 16th: Normality At Last

By May 16th Venus exits her retrograde shadow and things begin looking up! This is especially so where relationships and financial matters are concerned.

Whatever mad loop we have been stuck in since the end of January can now finally get un-looped and we can move forward.

The Sun also harmonises with the Lunar Nodes on the 16th, opening up yet more promising doorways to the future.

Sun conjuncts Uranus May 18th: The Penny Drops

On May 18th the Moon is finally well within the bounds of the Sun and emotions are no longer flailing out there on the ragged edge.

With the Sun conjunct Uranus in Taurus for the final time for another 80 years or so, a cycle of historic financial changes reaches its final stage.

Mercury squares Mars too and May 18th marks the end of the intense Scorpio Full Moon conversation that’s been raging for the past five days. The penny now drops, the changes needed are clear as day, and there is no turning back. With Mars-Mercury, heated words could lead to action.

Jupiter square Lunar Nodes, sextiles Chiron-Eris May 18th-20th: Choice Point

Ultimately, May 18th represents an important choice point. That’s also when Jupiter squares the Lunar nodes and sextiles Chiron on the 18th and Eris by May 20th.

We cannot simply sit on the information we’ve now received. We have a choice. Do we want to do what we always did and go on auto pilot? Or do we have the courage to try something new?

This is our spirit calling. Our imagination, our creativity, our capacity for love and transcendence. Our very humanity. Use it or lose it! This is a key crossroads for growth, an opportunity to show bravery, open our minds and choose a more authentic path.

May Astrology 2025 Week 4: Saturn in Aries!

May 20th sees Jupiter complete his conversation with Eris, and the Sun sextile Saturn in Pisces at the very final and critical degree of the entire zodiac! How desperate! Just then, the Sun enters Gemini. Happy Birthday Gemini! There is something critical about this moment, a last ditch attempt to stabilise something hugely unstable - perhaps an opportunity to speak openly too. Saturn is about to enter brave Aries in five days time, and our world will soon enter one of its most brave and progressive periods for decades. The vibe is changing and fast!

Venus trine Mars May 22nd: Fire Me Up!

Things begin looking up by May 22nd as lovers Mars and Venus trine and the Sun sextiles Neptune.

These are uplifting energies! Venus-Mars brings love, pleasure and desires fulfilled; Sun-Neptune brings inspiration and the entire period could lift the spirits.

By the 23rd, Mercury harmonises with the Lunar Nodes causing great commotion and opportunities for big ideas, trade, announcements and communications. As Mercury heads toward Uranus now, it’s time to open our minds wide to the future!

Come the 24th, the Sun trines Pluto closing the loop of the Uranus-Neptune-Pluto mini grand trine that is slowly building up between now and 2027, promising nothing short of a mini Renaissance for humanity!

May 24th is an empowering, deeply transformative day - perfect for personal alignment with any desired change.

Saturn Enters Aries May 25th: Pioneer or Perish!

Come May 25th, Saturn enters Aries and we’re now in a whole new ballgame. We last had Saturn in Aries 1996-99, which saw the founding of some of the biggest tech companies, such as Google (and Netflix).

Saturn in Aries 2025-2028 is going to be another period of pioneering innovation, and a total restructuring of society, both east and west. It is also a time of bravery and courage as we forge a brand new world in which we seek to protect individual sovereignty rather than sacrifice it on the altar of convenience, laziness or even progress.

We’re experiencing the death of all our old heroes and the rise of the hero within... “No more heroes any more” goes the song. We are the hero now! It’s time to take charge. It’s now or never.

Also on the 25th, Mercury conjuncts Uranus in Taurus and the message is clear. News, interactions and communications could shock now.

Distractions abound. Hold your focus!

Mercury is about to enter Gemini and connect with Neptune, Saturn and Pluto in a minute and the next few days could well blow our minds… in a good way. Pay attention!

May Astrology 2025 Week 5: Gemini New Moon

Mercury rules supreme in this final week of May, with a Gemini New Moon on the 27th conjunct a strong Mercury. Mercury enters Gemini a day earlier on the 26th, where he sextiles Neptune and Saturn freshly in Aries.

Announcements, news and revelations keep coming now - there is no stopping this train! Ideas are fresh, novel. News and interactions help us change perspective.

This is a first inkling of the promised human Renaissance about to unfold over the next couple of years even extending until 2030. And these last May days are sure to make that promise real!

So think deeply and carefully. What do you want? What do you aspire to? This is a chance to think critically and carefully, a chance to tune in and receive creative inspiration, a chance to share ideas, sell them, write them, to begin to manifest something new.

Gemini New Moon and Northern Lunistice May 27th: Far Out Ideas!

May 27th brings us a Gemini New Moon at 7 degrees, at 04:02BST (03:02UT), ruled by Mercury, who trines Pluto and conjuncts said New Moon. This is yet another symbol of revelations galore!

It’s a time of transformative news and communications, of powerful talk, trade, travel, learning and interaction. Clarity at last!

What follows this New Moon is an incredible and eery high. The Moon is out of bounds from May 26th until May 30th superimposing us on reality, including all our relationships with others and our world, in the strangest way. The world looks strange from up here and yet all becomes eerily clear.

We cannot quite connect with others perhaps, but we can certainly connect the dots!

We do see clearly. The Moon reaches its Lunistice, peaking at its northern-most declination a day later, on May 28th. These are critical days.

The Sabian Symbol for this gorgeous Gemini New Moon is “a well with a bucket and rope under the shade of majestic trees.”

The well of knowledge has finally been opened. The information is here, accessible, there for the taking. You can drink as much or as little as you can stomach, while you rest in the shade.

These are not just facts for the sake of it. We are now seeking the life-giving liquid of truth, of learning, and understanding; of not living parched and in the dark. Only this sort of free access to data, speech a nd communitation, and the protection of this sacred right, can restore our trust in society and our cooperation with life and others, from the deepest to the most mundane level of existence.

Mercury Superior Conjunction May 30th: Total Clarity!

This Gemini New Moon is super-charged with Mercury energy! For Mercury also reaches its apogee by the 29th, its furthest spot away from the earth.

This moment signifies the point of greatest possible objectivity on our little planet.

From this superior vantage point, Mercury conjuncts the Sun for its superior conjunction on May 30th, bringing great clarity, truth and understanding of the facts. We essentially have a “full Mercury” in its own home sign, Gemini, right now, at the same time as a Gemini New Moon and Lunistice.

This emphasises news, communications, and an avalanche of facts coming to light, the brain kicking into overdrive trying to process it all and communicate with other human beings.

The Sabian Symbol for this superior conjunction is “an airplane performing a nosedive.”

This ‘Full Mercury’ points to mastering higher realms of existence, clearly understanding the stark alternatives facing us right now, and even challenging the very force that keeps us earth-bound.

It’s a case of making a commitment, and of applying our mind over matter. This is an important moment of planting intellectual seeds for the future - all based on full knowledge and clarity of what has gone before - and especially during the years 2021-22 when Mercury was last retrograde in Gemini befuddling the facts.

Chiron Conjunct Eris in Aries May 27th: An Alternative Path

As if all that is not enough, we also have Chiron conjunct Eris on May 27th - a slow and long-term influence - perfecting after months of a slow approach. These two maverick non-classical bodies are leading the revolution - not through violence, but through an awakening of a greater awareness.

This is the moment of us making a conscious choice to remain sovereign, and opt for a braver and more authentic life path.

May is done. The seeds have been planted. Our world is now truly on a new trajectory. Venus will come to join those rebels (Chiron and Eris) in early June and we will soon feel the pleasure (and pain) of what it means to be ‘your own man’ or woman. But May is all about information. These are also the last days of Jupiter in Gemini after all.

Having unleashed more information over the past twelve months than any human brain can handle, Jupiter will soon make his way to Cancer, on June 9th, there to toil the fertile soil of our insides, there to make space in our belly so we can begin to digest and stomach it all…
