August Astrology 2025: What’s going on?

Everything began shifting in July with all major planets testing new ground. We’re still in the thrall of Mercury retrograde as we come into August, as well as a super-charged Leo New Moon, which opened Pandora’s box, bringing totally novel experiences our way.

New and unfamiliar energies are flooding our world, and we will see much more of this type of experience moving forward. 

August is the first month when everything is on a brand new trajectory, giving us a true taste of the future. All history-shaping planets are in brand new signs now: Uranus is in Gemini, Saturn and Neptune in Aries and Pluto in Aquarius creating a mini grand trine- a bow in the sky waiting to be drawn, its apex sitting at the very hinges of the world. These major planets are holding space for a mini renaissance for humanity between 2025 and 2027-28. This is a totally new experience and it is on a global scale, a new world in the making. 

Our job this month? To test new ground and begin letting go of past structures, dreams and identities. August is unique in this offering, giving us a taste of life from Spring 2026 onwards.

Come September 1st, Saturn will pop backward into Pisces, there to tackle unfinished business in preparation of this new world to come, and demolish any remaining illusions we may still carry. 

In tandem to all this overwhelmingly new energy, Mercury has been retrograde since July 18th, kindly giving us the space to actually think about what we want moving forward.

With Mercury retrograde Win Leo, we’re still reviewing the broad brushstrokes of our lives until August 11th.

We may have been in a bit of a holding pattern for the past couple of weeks with ongoing situations coming to a resolution. August 1st sheds shimmering light on it all, illuminating the stage with new players. By August 11th, Mercury goes direct beginning to create a whole new picture that’s still rendering. Expect an avalanche of experience between the 7th and 18th of August, and especially between the 9th and 12th.

Mars and Venus are also active this month. Mars enters Libra on the 7th, stretching that big bow in the sky and kicking off all sorts of futuristic dust. Venus enjoys a super-lavish time in Cancer around the 12th thanks to Jupiter, then enters Leo on the 25th giving us yet another taste of the emerging picture. With a solidarity-forming Aquarius Full Moon on the 9th and jarring Virgo New Moon on the 23rd, it’s time to put our best foot forward. 

We are already in Eclipse season. The first eclipse is due to arrive September 7th - a huge Blood Moon Total Eclipse Full Moon Supermoon visible from the UK and Eurasia. With Pluto also about to go out of bounds from September onwards (veering further south than the sun’s apparent trajectory), some major transformation is afoot…

So let’s have a closer look at the August Astrology key events.

Friday August 1st:  Iridescent Clarity - Mercury Meets the Sun

August begins by shedding some sparkling clarity on a crucial dilemma.  Mercury retrograde in Leo meets the Sun and it’s time to begin projecting fledgling thoughts into the future.

Like seeds growing beneath the ground, it will be some time before these nascent concepts are fully understood and realised.

But at least we now have something to go by and we can begin to test what we have been only contemplating up to now. August 11th will bring yet more information to light and by August 24th, we’ll have sufficient information to start expanding our thinking.  This is the beginning of a new Mercury cycle which culminates September 12th and ends November 20th.

Early morning dew sparkles as sunlight floods the fields. = Transfiguration. Like a sparkling dawn after a long night, this is a good image to use to get a sense of what new ideas are being born as we speak.

On the same day Venus in Cancer squares Neptune and Saturn in Aries, creating a bold, sober and nostalgic mood.  Venus entered Cancer on July 31st to stay until August 25th, focusing our affections on all things intimate and familiar - our home, family, tribe and country. 

Thursday 7th-Sunday 10th August: Spiritual Marathon - Mars enters Libra

From August 7th Mars enters Libra, where he will stay until September 22nd. This placement is good for all diplomatic initiatives and negotiations, for fighting in courts, government halls and all seemingly civilised places where fierce political and cultural battles take place. Only this time...

There is an accelerated, progressive liberating trend to this process, a transformation that calls for the discipline of a seasoned fighter and true spiritual warrior.

Mars activates the Mini Grand Trine that holds the space for a mini collective Renaissance now and until 2027-28.  Mars connects in a dynamic bow and arrow configuration with Uranus in Gemini on the 7th Saturn and Neptune in Aries on the 9th and finally Pluto on the 10th. These big players graciously provide the celestial bow and Mars supplies the dynamic arrow. All we have to do is balance, draw and aim.

New initiatives carried out with discipline and devotion have real disruptive and transformative power now. This is a spiritual marathon; the future in the making.

Saturday August 9th: Solidarity - Aquarius Full Moon

It is amid this spiritual marathon that we get the Aquarius Full Moon (07:55 UT on the 9th) at 16:59’ Aquarius, the sign of solidarity - and that is exactly what this Full Moon lends Mars, the fighter. Aquarius symbolises the coming together of people under shared ideals, purely by choice, as free, autonomous and unique individuals.

This lunation strengthens our celestial bonds, our desire for freedom and our fighter spirit - enough to accomplish Mars’ monumental challenge, as he draws the grand celestial bow.

Mercury in Leo, nearly stationary, also engages in this show, eliciting dramatic, theatrical, and playful words. There is a sense of destiny in the making here, sort of sitting in our blind spot.

Monday August 11th: All Systems Go - Mercury Goes Direct in Leo

This is a bold, majestic, crazy day. Mercury turns direct in Leo at 4 degrees on the morning of the 11th. Expect some drama, commotion and highly strung nerves as new and unfamiliar energies flood the stage. Keep your schedule light to deal with what arises. This is a bold moment, releasing pent up creative energies. Like a frozen screen suddenly jumping to life, all the apps you’ve waiting to load suddenly come online at once, cascading down the screen and flooding the operating system. This is an exuberant time to jump forward.

You may need a few days to recalibrate the system.  Don't jump the gun now. Mistakes are most often made on Mercury's station direct as we chomp at the bit to get started. Ease yourself in.

Mars and Mercury form a prolonged and energising sextile now holding space for our mini spiritual renaissance.  This sextile becomes exact twice: first on Saturday the 16th, then again Monday August 18th as Mercury begins to gather speed.

These are extremely energetic days for travel, communications and trade. Lots of information is coming to light.

The best way to balance these energies is to ground them in a new vision. The shape trying to form in the sky is a hexagram but it’s missing a leg. That missing piece is to be found in Sagittarius, the sign of vision, adventure and hunger for new experience. Time to take a leap. If you have any planets or points in the first five degrees of Sagittarius, expect them to be activated.

Tuesday August 12th: Real Progress At Last - Saturn sextile Uranus

There is a beautiful arc in the sky right now that holds space for us all to evolve and it hits two golden moments this month. The first arrives on August 12th when Saturn sextiles Uranus.

This is a rare and beautiful aspect that brings amazing opportunities to marry tradition with innovation and create greater freedom within sound and solid structures.

Divine inspiration is just beginning to flow now, with the second golden moments arriving on August 29th for total spiritual renewal. 

Tuesday August 12th: In the Lap of Luxury - Venus conjuncts Jupiter

Also on August 12th we have the most indulgent, luxuriating and abundant aspect of the year:

Venus in Cancer conjuncts Jupiter there bringing love, beauty and luxury into whatever you consider to be your safe space.

Home, family, cozy places and faces are all given a celestial boon now. There is also such a thing as too much of a good thing. With a greater desire for abundance, spending goes up now and meals get heartier. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, making this a great day to connect with renewed hope, vision and abundance, as well as express love, tolerance and generosity in spades. The next couple of days are perfect for building bridges, striking agreements, and harmonising relationships.

Saturday 23rd: Startling Start - Virgo New Moon

The Sun enters Virgo on the 22nd, ready for a Virgo New Moon on the 23rd. Happy Birthday Virgo! We’re now entering the last of the summer season in the Northern hemisphere. A time of harvest, of sorting the wheat from the chaff, and distilling the most useful parts of our experience. 

The New Moon arrives at 06:06 UT/GMT on the 23rd and is at the critical 0 degrees of Virgo. Here we see the nascent ability to think critically and discriminate the truth amid an avalanche of noise! 

This is the birth of a new critical faculty, one we did not need before. But now, our very survival depends on it! New software is coming online, necessitated by the overwhelming amount of information now hitting our input sensors.

And with the New Moon perfectly square Uranus what we now hear or experience may shock us!  Expect a curveball of some kind. Some sort of event is going to kickstart this process, bringing this new faculty online.

We’ll find ourselves scrambling to discern what’s what amid the noise, learning to put data into use while it is still fluid, changing, evolving.  Open-minded discernment is the task here.

This is emphasised once more on the 24th, as the Sun-Uranus square becomes exact.

Chiron and Eris also have a hand in this lunation, making sure that we stay true to what we value most and helping us align our vital energies for greater personal integration, healing and authenticity - especially in the run up to the Virgo New Moon.

Monday 25th August: Party Time - Venus in Leo

On Monday August 25th (17:25 BST) Venus enters Leo to stay there until September 19th: It’s party time!

Any previous preference for cozy, intimate gatherings is now replaced by a desire for big dramatic dos, hearty socialising and displays of creative flair.

Time to let the inner child come out and play. Once in Leo, Venus connects with the great players in the skies, as they hold space for new wavelengths to flood our world. On the 26th Venus trines Saturn/Neptune and sextiles Uranus, opposing Pluto by the 27th.

The 25th-27th could prove to be a couple of days of new relationships and agreements, negotiations and approaches. Expect fireworks.

Friday August 29th: Electric Dreams - Uranus sextile Neptune

By the end of August it is time to dream big. Dreams now are electric; they are futuristic; they are flashes of insight, visions and eureka moments from our future selves.

Uranus completes his sextile to Neptune on the 28th-29th and we’ve got to let the currents of inspiration take us. The foundation for progress has already been laid mid-August: that was Saturn’s job.
